Located in the west of Shandong and at the junction of Hebei, Shandong and Henan provinces, Liaocheng covers a land area of 8,715 square kilometers and has eight counties, county-level cities, districts and three municipal development zones with a population of 6.4 million.
There are 34 rivers each with a drainage area of more than 100 square kilometers. The Yellow River, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and the South-North Water Diversion project all run through the city. Liaocheng boasts Dongchang Lake, the largest inner-city lake in northern China.
As a national modern agriculture demonstration zone and a national agricultural science and technology park, Liaocheng generates 1/8 of grain production in Shandong and 1/7 of its vegetables production, and it is reputed as the No.1 City of Vegetables Production in China. It is an important deep processing base of non-ferrous metal, a production base of new energy vehicles and a processing base of pet food. Liaocheng has vigorously developed smart logistics, culture and creativity, health and medical care, and explored the huge consumer market around the city. It has established sister-city relations or friendly cooperative relations with cities in the ROK, Australia, Germany and other countries.
