Located in the middle of Shandong, the city took its name from Mount Tai. Tai’an has 6 counties, county-level cities, districts, and 3 functional zones under its jurisdiction with a land area of 7,762 square kilometers and a population of 5.64 million.

Tai'an has been rated as National Famous Historical and Cultural City, Outstanding Tourism City in China, City of China Habitat Environment Prize, National Sanitary City, and National Garden City. Mount Tai, the most worshipped one among the five great mountains in China, is the first place to be listed as both world cultural and natural heritage. As one of the first group of national scenic areas, it is a world geo-park, and a famous Chinese calligraphy mountain, serving as the epitome of the Chinese history and culture and a symbol of the spirit of the Chinese nation.

As a major base of energy and raw materials in Shandong, the city has a whole variety of industries, including automobile and parts, electric transmission and transformation equipment, and high-end equipment, with distinctive advantages. Traditional industries such as chemicals, food, textiles and building materials enjoy great momentum for development.
