Situated in the central part of Shandong Peninsula, Weifang, a central city of the Shandong Peninsula city cluster, administers 4 districts, 2 counties, and 6 county-level cities, Weifang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, Binhai Economic and Technological Development Zone, and Weifang Comprehensive Free Trade Zone. Covering an area of 16,100 square kilometers and home to 9.373 million population, Weifang is known as the World Kite Capital and National City of Civility.

With 6 expressways and 10 railways, Weifang has been identified as one of the 100 regional high-speed railway hubs and one of the 36 high-speed rail logistics hubs in China. Weifang Port is a Class-A open port with an annual handling capacity of over 46 million tons. The Belt and Road Weifang International Multimodal Transport Channel has been in operation. Weifang Airport has opened 7 passenger direct air routes to 13 cities, and the annual passenger traffic has reached 720,000.

Such pillar industries as electronic information, mechanical equipment manufacturing, textile and garment, marine chemicals, papermaking and packaging, food processing and bio-medicine, and new industries ranging from new energy vehicles, photovoltaic power generation to energy conservation and environment protection have developed rapidly. Weifang is a major production base for agricultural and sideline products, exporting 1/8 of the country’s poultry and 1/18 of its vegetables to foreign countries.

In 2018, the GDP reached 615.68 billion RMB yuan, and imports and exports hit 163.09 billion RMB yuan.
