    Yantai, bordering on the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea, is located in the east of Shandong Peninsula. It governs 4 districts, 1 county, 7 county-level cities, 2 national-level economic and technological development zones, 1 national-level high-tech industrial development zone, 1 national-level bonded port area, and 1 national-level nature reserve. The city covers a land area of 13,900 square kilometers and a sea area of 26,000 square kilometers with 1038 kilometers of coastline. Its population is 7.1218 million. Yantai has been rated as National City of Civility for five consecutive times.


    Yantai is blessed with abundant resources as evidenced by marine products such as prawns, sea cucumbers and abalones, and more than 40 underground minerals with proved reserves. Its gold reserves and production rank top in China.


    The city enjoys a complete range of industrial sectors, covering 37 out of 41 main sectors. Six 100 billion RMB yuan-sized industrial clusters including equipment manufacturing, electronic information, food processing, gold, modern chemicals and automobile have been formed. There are 21 companies each with revenues of over 10 billion RMB yuan, and 47 listed companies.


    Yantai enjoys rich culture. It is a major place for the birth and development of the east Shandong culture and bases of east Shandong revolution. The local marine culture, revolutionary culture and folk culture have unique charm. It is rated as National Famous Historical and Cultural City and the only International Vine and Wine City in Asia.


    Openness has given prosperity to Yantai. The city was first opened foreign businesses in 1861 and became one of the three major trading ports in northern China. Yantai was designated as a linchpin for the Belt and Road Initiative in 2015. At present, Yantai city has established sister-city relations or friendly cooperative relations with 28 cities in 16 countries.
